Natura Mare, 1999

Physician's Auditorium, Charleston, SC (Spoleto Festival), USA

Natura Mare, also known as the weightlessness of the megabyte, is a captivating performance by Regina Frank as she confronts her digital alter ego through video projection. With her graceful movements, she dances against and in front of two screens, depicting a digital day's journey from sunrise to moonrise in just 33 minutes. Although the video may not reveal any signs of exhaustion, the stage becomes alive with the sound of her breath and the cracking of her bones. As she embodies elements of nature such as the wind, summer, sunshine, birds, shells, and flowers, a digital dream unfolds before the audience, all while she carries the burden of her parachute silk dress, which becomes a physical and mental challenge.
