Roots of the Soul

Sculptor Vítor Ribeiro, born in Porto in 1957 and currently residing and working in Mafra, has been establishing himself as one of the most interesting names of his generation. With international participations, his work, which he began exhibiting individually in 1985, is represented in various national and international museums. Nature, with its organic and naturally plastic forms, has always been of particular importance in his work, where the tree has been the highlight since 2011, serving as the central motif in several exhibitions. The tree is now also the protagonist of the two superb prints we present, where the power and mastery of line and form stand out against the dark background, creating luminous clearings in the nuances of black that the white opens up. Small suspended gardens seem to bloom on its branches, connecting the earth and the sky, a perfect image of the tree of life.
