Homage Series to Carlos Paredes: The Music of Forms
Rui Sanches (Lisbon, 1954) is one of the most acclaimed artists of his generation. He developed his artistic training at Ar.Co, and later at Goldsmith's College in London, where he was exposed to international art. This experience marked a significant turning point in his career, leading him away from painting and towards installation art. Sanches completed his Master of Fine Arts (MFA) at Yale University in the United States, where he spent two years from 1980 to 1982. During this period, while still maintaining his interest in painting, he began to focus on sculpture, particularly in wood, establishing a strong conceptual style. In his current work, lines and strokes define a language where rhythmic movements suggest open forms of metamorphosing structures, expressing both order and freedom that could be translated into music.
