Edições Holly - Exclusive CPS
Issac Holly began his editorial activity in the late 1970s, promoting the graphic work of important Portuguese artists. CPS is the exclusive representative of Edições Holly.
Joaquim Rodrigo (1912-1997), a self-taught artist, would become one of the most original artists of the second half of the 20th century in Portugal. According to Alexandre Pomar, "already in the early 1960s, his creation would be identified with the emergence of a 'new figuration', where representation, schematic or fragmented, should be inscribed in an indeterminate or imprecise (non-naturalistic) space." In turn, José Augusto França noted the "pop" kinship of his paintings, considering them innovative even at the European level and drawing attention to an assumed naivety along with the expression of a primitivism capable of expanding the meaning of his "pop" inspiration. References that come together in this 1980s serigraphy, composing micro universes where figures and objects are icons and signs capable of reinventing the paths of a primitive and magical gaze.
