REAL AND DREAMY LANDSCAPES
João Hogan's (1914-1988) work, one of the greatest painters of the second half of the 20th century in Portugal, evolved from 1942, the year of his first exhibition, under the sign of a landscape tradition with a naturalistic touch in the country, but in his case, it modernizes by integrating the constructive vision of Cézanne and the expressive vigor of the Belgian painter Constant Permeke (1886-1952), sharing the "muffled" colors and powerful forms. In his graphic work, the connection to the fantastic and surreal is emphasized, as exemplified by the artwork presented here.
