CREATURES OF THE PENCIL AND BRUSH

The nude, with such a great tradition in art, finds in the Spanish painter Ramón Sanmiquel a young and talented cultivator, who, like the famous French artist Balthus (1908-2001), specializes in representing the "charm" of adolescent female beauties. Provocative poses become the pretext for exercises in mastery of line, capable of giving life to true creatures of the pencil or brush, in the nervous vibration of the stroke, or in the restrained breath of color. The evident eroticism of the figures takes a back seat to the plastic lesson they convey.

Ramon Sanmiquel

Ramon Sanmiquel was born in Barcelona in 1973. He holds a degree in medicine, specializing in surgery, but considers himself a self-taught artist. However, his meticulous work, indicative of a particular observation, demonstrates his merit as a draftsman, painter, and printmaker. He has held various exhibitions in Spain and Portugal: La Follia, Lisbon, 2012; Segovia Souvenir, Montón de Trigo Montón de Paja gallery, Segovia, 2012; Drawings, Prints, and an Exterminating Angel, José Rincón gallery, Madrid, 2011; The Process of Clementina, la Eriza, Madrid, 2010; Hartmann Gallery, Watercolors, Barcelona, 2009; La Boca. In 2009, he participated in the Lisbon Contemporary Art Fair. In terms of artistic techniques, he prefers portraiture and watercolor, with the female body being one of his favorite subjects. His work reflects an interest in classical and timeless subjects such as still life, female nudes, and even religious themes like the sacrifice of saints, but brought into the context of contemporary issues.
