Ivald Granato (b. 1949), a versatile and multifaceted artist, is considered Brazil's greatest performance artist. He studied at the School of Fine Arts in Rio de Janeiro and is a painter, sculptor, editor, author of several books, set designer, and television producer. Granato has authored manifestos such as "Plural" or "Artist in Search of a Profession." Granato's creation bears a resemblance to Jean Dubuffet's Art Brut (1901-1985), with the expression of the mentally ill and children, as well as graffiti, embracing spontaneity and the instinctive and eruptive impulse of gesture. In fact, it is with the creator of Art Brut, a precursor of abstract expressionism and informalism, and his language of great freedom and a certain naivety and irony that Granato's current compositions reveal an acknowledged proximity, particularly with the famous series "L'Hourloupe" from 1962 (which would be extended into sculpture), in the relationship between movement and color, with a predominance of blues and reds.
