In Search of the Lost Paradise
Engrácia Cardoso (born 1976), graduate in Fine Arts from the Superior Artistic School of Porto, has been exhibiting individually and collectively in Portugal and abroad since 2004, the year she won the VIII Grand Painting Prize Fidelidade Mundial. In her current work for serigraphy, playing with thin lines and bold color patches in overlapping layers using a palette that harmonizes cool and warm tones enhanced by black, the artist offers us a unique zoology of a garden that represents the lost paradise of a peace and happiness predating our civilization, which should inspire us. Animals of the land and sky from overlapping times, an archaeology of memory that recovers a kind of Noah's Ark, a dream of a Golden Age that brings us closer to an original nature, a source of well-being and wisdom.
