Handwritten linocut with text by the author:
"Once upon a time there was a queen bee who abdicated the throne to run away with a drone. For years, in the beehive, nothing else was talked about. But the truth is that honey production remained unchanged."
FROM LIFE TO FABLE
Painter and illustrator, Maria João Worm creates in her current series of linocuts a whole array of characters from the grand fable of life, whose meaning is "borrowed" by some figures from the animal kingdom. Her "misfits" are nothing more than the protagonists of a rebellion that is all too familiar to us, that of all those who refuse to conform to the stereotypes imposed by a materialistic and oppressive society.
