A NEW VISION OF THE SACRED

José Faria, a master of drypoint and professor of drawing, engraving, and painting, has earned high praise from the Spanish art critic Lourdes Jiménez. In her role as curator of the exhibition showcasing 26 years of Faria's graphic work in Málaga in 2007, she described his engraved pieces as unparalleled and his figurative poetry as something to be admired.

Faria's figurative style takes on an unconventional portrayal of the sacred, emphasizing the dramatic and human dimensions of sacrifice. Through his depiction of the descent from the cross, the black and white tones imbue the artwork with an aura of solemnity and a distinct air of mystery unique to the artist's universe.
