Contemporary Caricature and Grotesque In Klaus Zilla's recent work, we rediscover the grotesque, the drama that borders on caricature, and a whole fantastical world that evokes the controversial, violent, and kaleidoscopic reality that surrounds us. With masks as their focal point, this image depicts the dominance of cruelty and absurdity, where the face of humanity is lost. The artist skillfully captures the essence of a humanity left to its own devices, inviting viewers to reflect on the complexities of our society.
Klaus Zylla
Born in Cottbus, Germany, in 1953. He studied at the School of Arts in Berlin from 1980 to 1982. In 1986, he opened a screen printing workshop and has since held several exhibitions. In 1993, he received the Art Prize from the Grundkredit Bank in Berlin. Currently, he divides his time between Berlin and Reguendo Pequeno, Portugal.
Klaus Zylla's works have a strong calligraphic component - both through the inclusion of texts and words and through the calligraphic style of painting and drawing - and they are populated by hybrid and imaginary figures, often a combination of animal and human forms.
