Jan Voss, a German artist from the KWY group, who lived the great adventure of modern art in Paris for ten years, gave shape in the 1960s to a narrative figuration inspired by the rituals of everyday life, closer to a social reality, with history in the background, small dramas seasoned with humor. Voss evolved from schematic and rough graphics on black backgrounds in the 1960s, evoking Art Brut and Dubuffet, into powerfully expressive little squares for delicate scenarios colored by the vibrant tones of his palette. Humor and a social perspective seen through the lens of burlesque fantasy that reshapes the image in a surrealist manner through unusual and surprising associations. Surreal narratives, disturbing sequences, violations of the order of the visible, language games, gestures, objects, signs, a "hint of rebellion" (1968) that never fully materializes and is kindly suggested in this image of playful schematics, fragments of a fragmented contemporary vision that finds meaning in play.
