In the 1960s, after the eruption of previous decades of abstract expressionism by artists like Pollock and Gorky, geometric abstraction by Vasarely or Reinhardt, and color field painting by Rothko, Newman, and Still, which aimed to express sensations and emotions with strong dramatic and mystical content, Pop art can be considered a healthy return to a more evident reality, one that is disseminated by the media, advertising, and comics, reflecting an equally turbulent and agitated daily life in which images take center stage. This is precisely what happens in this artwork by Icelandic painter Erró (born in 1932), an exponent of international narrative figuration.
