Rogério Ribeiro, one of the leading figures in the contemporary Portuguese art scene, celebrated his fifty years of artistic activity in 2000 at the Galveias Palace in Lisbon. This marked a tribute to the exemplary journey of an artist and professor who combined critical reflection and creation in various expressions: drawing, painting, printmaking, ceramics, and tapestry, all of which demonstrate his versatility. In his small-scale drawings and vast paintings, often composed of juxtaposed panels, the author's technical mastery stood out, inseparable from a high aesthetic sense and a poetic inspiration that breathes life into his entire body of work. The precision of the lines and the vigor of the strokes convey, in the drawings, the essence of the plastic forms, not as an imitation of life, but as a reflection of their hidden soul. In his figurative paintings, the splendor of the plastic material subtly asserts its power in the dialogue of forms and spaces, orchestrated by a keen sense of proportions, studied in relation to a composition guided by balance and harmony within a surprisingly creative complexity. In these serigraphs, the painter represents a work scenario that, through the motifs involved—trees, stairs—creates an intricate and rich composition, animated by cool and warm tones harmoniously orchestrated by the painter's particular mastery. The tree associated with the ladder emerges as a symbolic motif of ascent and redemption that is intertwined with it.
