Partnership:

Jorge Martins, an acclaimed artist who has lived and worked in Paris and New York, has a rich exhibition history abroad (Brussels, Cologne, Madrid, New York, Osaka, Paris, Rome, Sao Paulo, Washington) and has been honored with several retrospectives at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation: his drawings (1957-1987) in 1988 and his paintings (1958-1993) in 1993. Currently, his major retrospective exhibition is taking place at the Centro Cultural de Belém. In this artwork, the artist creates an alphabet of plastic signs that are somewhat unsettling and indecipherable, yet evoke emotions and sensations. They engage in representational games reminiscent of his influential artistic journey, incorporating elements of Pop Art and Neo-Figuration.
