Sandro Resende

Sandro Resende (1975) portrays in his photographs the consequences of dehumanizing human relationships that turn people into objects, creating a “social void” and denying communication. He works on the concept of self-recognition in relation to others.

Alongside his work as an artist, he has also been responsible for the artistic direction of various projects and spaces, including: Pavilhão 28; Centro Hospitalar Psiquiátrico de Lisboa; Projecto CONTENTORES (Centro Cultural de Belém, Liverpool Biennial, Guimarães European Capital of Culture, EDP Foundation); Projecto Outdoor; Flash Art Magazine; Espaço3 [cubed space]; Pavilhão 27 of CHPL; Pampero Public Art and Public Art Interferências; Pavilhão 31 at CHPL; Redbull House of Art; Projecto Janela; Cidadela Art District in Cascais; Projeto 9 National Railway Museum. In 2015, he accepted the artistic direction of various projects for Travessa da Ermida.

In 2015, as part of CPS’s 30-year anniversary, he participated in the exhibition “1/81” at the Côa Museum, for which he created a serigraphy at the CPS Studio.

In 2019, he founded Manicómio, the first space for the creation of outsider art in Portugal, combining the artistic creation and public engagement of resident artists who have experienced or are experiencing mental illness.
