Martinha Maia was born in S. Mamede do Coronado in 1976. She currently lives and works in Porto. She holds a degree in Fine Arts from ESAD, Caldas da Rainha.
Throughout her career, Martinha has been working with various mediums such as installation, video, performance, and drawing.
She has participated in several group exhibitions, including “30 artists under 40” at the Stenersen Museum in Oslo in 2004, “j’en rêve” at the Foundation Cartier pour l’art contemporain in Paris in 2005, “Muyethlek” at the Museu de Arte Maputo in Maputo in 2008, and “A ‘fluxus’ thing 2” at the Stuttgart Academy in 2008. She has also been part of exhibitions such as “30 anos dos CAM” at CAM in Lisbon in 2013 and “Da fábrica que desvanece à baía do Tejo” at the Parque Empresarial Baía do Tejo (Quimiparque) in Barreiro in 2014.
In addition to group exhibitions, Martinha has also had several solo exhibitions, including “paisagem do sentir” at Politécnica 38 in Lisbon in 2005, “Negro” at Agência Vera Cortês in Lisbon in 2007, “Sobre Barroco” at Casa de Velázquez in Madrid in 2007, “De sensu et sensato” at Espaço Tranquilidade in Lisbon in 2012, and “Imaginarius” at the Centro de Artes de Ponte de Sor in Ponte de Sor in 2018.
