Mário Silva

Born in Coimbra in 1929, this artist’s cultural and artistic career began in 1957. While a finalist at the Faculty of Engineering, they decided to pursue their passion for the arts instead. Alongside their artistic pursuits, they were a co-founder of the Circle of Plastic Arts of the Ballet Society and the Jazz Section of the Academic Association of Coimbra. They also participated in the II International Art Colloquium, promoted by Professor Reys Santos, with the presence of René Huyghe.

Throughout their career, this artist devoted themselves to sculpture, graphic arts, ceramics, public art, and painting. They also actively promoted art and engaged in a continuous dialogue with younger generations. Their impressive portfolio includes numerous solo and group exhibitions worldwide. They have received numerous awards, medals, and academic distinctions.

Tragically, they passed away in September 2016 in the city of Coimbra.
