Manuela Justino

Born in Castelo Novo / Castelo Branco, the artist attended the School of Decorative Arts António Arroio in Lisbon. In 1975, she obtained her degree in Painting from the School of Fine Arts in Lisbon. From 1970 onwards, she dedicated herself to the research and practice of tapestry. She created large-scale pieces, both on commission and in teaching practice with her students. In 1971, she began her teaching career. In 1987 and 1988, she was assigned to the Ministry of Education – Integrated Teaching Resources Center, where she participated in projects for children with special needs. She held several solo and group exhibitions. She passed away in 2013. In her honor, the Historic Village of Castelo Novo named the Municipal Gallery after her, which is now known as the Manuela Justino Art Gallery.
