Flávia Pinto is a native of Sesimbra, but has always looked at the boundaries of her land with curiosity. At the age of 18, she left the Portuguese sun to explore new horizons. She lived for a year in Germany, where she delved into the themes of sustainability and spirituality. She studied Drawing in Falmouth, England, a discipline she uses to explore social and environmental projects. Sail Against Plastic was the perfect culmination of her degree. As part of a multidisciplinary and multigenerational team, she embarked on a sailboat in Longyearbyen, one of the northernmost communities in the world. Here, she visually documented the plastics in the Arctic Glacial Ocean and took the first steps towards her dream of uniting Art and Science in a way recognized by the surrounding communities.
