Filipe Amaral

Born in 1962, in the town of Arraiolos, Filipe Amaral is a licensed artist from the Faculty of Human Kinetics and has a background in Painting from Ar.Co. In addition, he studied printmaking at the Portuguese Engravers Cooperative and learned tile manufacturing techniques at the National Tile Museum.

His resume includes numerous solo exhibitions and participation in group shows in cities such as London, Lisbon, New York, and São Paulo. In 2019, he coordinated and inaugurated the “First Portuguese School Museum of Contemporary Art” – Ferreira de Castro School Group.

Filipe Amaral has been creating using various mediums such as painting, sculpture, and printmaking, not only with traditional materials but also with more unusual and innovative ones. He employs abstract language, particularly through the use of lines, colors, and light.

“The strength of his presence makes the line seem to be the key to his compositions. The intersection of lines and shapes, the overlapping of spaces, and the play of light, color, and shadows create the perspective of multiple paths.” (Curator Geni Settanni)
