Ciuco Gutierrez

Born in Torrelavega (Cantabria) in 1956, this artist created his first images with a distinctive personal style in 1983. He established himself in the world of photography with his aggressive use of colors and ironic expressions, which became his signature. His compositions left no one indifferent. In 1986, he held his first solo exhibition at the Moriarty Gallery in Madrid, and since then, he has exhibited both in Spain and abroad. Alongside Ouka Leele, Alberto García Alix, Javier Vallhonrat, and Joan Fontcuberta, he was one of the first photographers to bring photography into art galleries and showcase his work at ARCO.

His work revolves around the staging of spaces and places, where imagination plays a fundamental role in his intimate view. Through objects, paradox, and color, he recreates a singular world of dreams.

Since then, he has held around a hundred solo exhibitions, both in Spain and abroad. His work is represented in important private and public collections, including the National Museum of Contemporary Art Reina Sofía in Madrid, the La Caixa Foundation in Barcelona, the Banesto Foundation in Madrid, and the Northern Collection of Contemporary Art of the Cantabria Government, among others.
