Bento Oliveira

Bento Alexandre Lima Fortes Oliveira was born in 1973 on the island of Santo Antão, Cape Verde.
After completing his primary studies in Ribeira Grande, he moved to the neighboring island of São Vicente, where he had his first impactful experiences in confrontation with the surrounding landscape. There, he discovered visual arts as a means to express his emotions and concerns about life.
The rugged topography, the sensuality of the landscape, both in geographical and human terms, and the daily experience under the sun of the people who inhabit it, are the driving forces that give meaning to his poetic and visual journey. After a period in the Amazon, where he graduated in Art Education with a specialization in Plastic Arts from the Federal University of Pará (Brazil), Bento Oliveira returned to Cape Verde, which continues to be the eternal inspiration and muse of his art.
He has participated in various exhibitions, both solo and group, in Cape Verde and Portugal.
