Authenticity and Uniqueness of Portuguese Printmaking

All the artworks we currently offer are exclusive editions from the Portuguese Printmaking Center (Centro Português de Serigrafia) (CPS). These editions are signed by the artists, numbered, and limited to no more than 200 copies. Each piece also bears the CPS white seal as a mark of authenticity.

When an edition is sold out, can another one be made?

No, CPS editions cannot be reproduced. At the end of the edition process, the print’s matrix is destroyed. For instance, engraving plates are drilled and scratched to prevent unauthorized parallel editions by the artist or editor.

Is Original Print considered an “original artwork”?

An Original Print is derived from an image created on a surface that the artist has directly worked on, such as a stone or woodblock, a copper plate, or even a simple paper drawing. The print resulting from the surface the artist has chosen as the base for their work is considered an original artwork. These prints are part of a limited and unrepeatable edition, numbered and signed by the artist, and further authenticated by a CPS seal.

What do PA and HC mean?

PA (Prova de Artista) or Artist’s Proof refers to the prints made for the artist and typically constitutes 10% of the total edition.

HC (Hors Commerce) represents the prints made for the editor and usually accounts for 10% of the total edition. For example, an edition may consist of 100 prints + 10 PA + 10 HC.
