Alexandra Barbosa

Born in 1981 in Vila do Conde, this artist completed a degree in Fine Arts at the School of Art and Design in Caldas da Rainha in 2004. In 2007, they obtained a Master’s degree in Art Production and began their doctoral thesis in Arts: Production and Research at the Polytechnic University of Valencia, Spain, in 2008. They received a scholarship at ESTAMPA’05 – “XIII International Exhibition of Engraving and Contemporary Art Editions” in Madrid, and in 2006, they were a scholar at the “Large Format Woodcut Workshop” in the International Biennial of Contemporary Art – ALBIAC in Almería and the “III Master of Graphic Work” – Woodcut Module at the “CIEC Foundation – International Center for Contemporary Engraving” in Corunna. They have attended several workshops in the field of printmaking, such as the Münsterlandfestival pArt3 Workshop at the Kloster Bentlage studios in Rheine, Germany (2007), and the Fiber Woodcut Workshop taught by Professor Pedro Ascencio at the Faculty of Fine Arts, Polytechnic University of Valencia (2007).

This artist regularly exhibits both individually and collectively, and their work has been awarded the following prizes: in 2006, the 2nd Prize for Printmaking “Compositor Antonio Gualda” in Granada, Spain; and the 1st International Prize for “Arte Grafico Jesús Núñez” in Corunna, Spain. In 2004, they received an Honorable Mention in the National Engraving Contest at the 4th Évora Engraving Festival and the 1st Prize for Photography “Discovering Touguinhó” in Vila do Conde.

Their work is represented in China, Italy, Germany, Spain, and Portugal.
